Why I Became a Cosmetic Dentist?
Hi, I’m Dr. Gianna Hanly, and I’d like to share how I found my path in dentistry and what continues to motivate my work every day.
From Art to Dentistry
I’ve always been drawn to art and transformation. During my early studies, I discovered that dentistry was more than just treating teeth — it was a way to combine precision, creativity, and function.
What fascinated me most was seeing how a single treatment could completely change someone’s smile and confidence.
That’s when I decided to specialize in oral rehabilitation.
What Is Oral Rehabilitation?
Oral rehabilitation focuses on restoring both function and aesthetics in patients with dental issues.
This includes treatments such as:
• Dental implants
• Crowns and bridges
• Full-mouth restorations
• Prosthetic solutions
The goal is not only to improve appearance, but also to restore proper chewing, structure, and long-term oral health.
My Training and Experience
I completed my specialization at CES University in Medellín, where I trained in complex cases, including:
• Full tooth loss
• Failed previous treatments
• Patients requiring complete rehabilitation
These treatments often take months, which allows you to build strong relationships with patients. It’s a process that requires patience, trust, and collaboration — and the results are incredibly rewarding.
My Passion for Smile Design
Over time, I developed a strong interest in cosmetic dentistry, especially ceramic veneers.
This wasn’t something deeply emphasized during my early training, so I actively pursued additional education to refine my skills.
Working with veneers requires extreme precision. These restorations are often less than 1 mm thick, making them delicate and highly technique-sensitive.
It’s a process that demands focus, experience, and attention to detail — but when done correctly, the results can completely transform a smile in a natural way.
What I Enjoy Most About My Work
My day-to-day work is not only about procedures — it’s about people.
I solve problems, meet new patients, follow their progress, and celebrate the results with them. Seeing someone smile with confidence again is what makes this work meaningful.
After more than 15 years in dentistry, I can honestly say that I still enjoy what I do every day.
My goal is simple: to help patients achieve healthy, functional, and natural-looking smiles that last over time.
